Mark Bicket, MD, PhD

Co-Director, Michigan OPEN Assistant Professor, Division of Pain Research, Department of Anesthesiology

Dr. Bicket is an assistant professor in the Division of Pain Research in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan. His research interests include clinical trials, health services, and comparative effectiveness research. He also studies the evidence base, safety, and quality of treatments for acute and chronic pain, including opioid prescribing and use in the time around surgery, hospitalizations, and other healthcare settings.

Dr. Bicket received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Oklahoma and an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation from the Johns Hopkins University. He completed an anesthesiology residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident, and pain medicine fellowship training at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He previously directed the nationally recognized Pain Medicine Fellowship Program and Pain Medicine Quality and Safety at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and also served as a health policy advisor to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
